Why won't my MacBook turn on even when it is plugged in?
The short answer
A MacBook that stays dark on mains power is usually failing at one of four points: the charger or cable, the charging port, the battery, or the logic board. Being plugged in only proves the wall socket works, not that power is reaching the board. Try a second charger first, because that is the one cause you can rule out yourself; the other three need a diagnosis.
What to check before you call
Try a different charger and a different socket. Then hold the power button down, release it, and press it again. On a MacBook with a MagSafe connector, tell the engineer whether the plug lights up. No light is worth reporting, but it does not clear the machine: the light comes on only once the charger and the board have recognised each other.
Listen and feel. A fan spinning, a chime, or heat under the palm rest with a black screen is a different fault from total silence. That distinction changes the repair, so tell the engineer which one you have.
What the four causes usually mean
A failed charger or frayed cable is the simplest of the four to rule out. A charging port full of pocket lint, or with a worn connector, stops current before it reaches the battery. A failed or swollen cell can stop some MacBooks powering on even on mains, which is one of the things the diagnosis checks.
Liquid damage and board-level failure are the serious ones. Corrosion on the power rails, a shorted component, or a burnt charging IC will keep the machine dark no matter what you plug in. Nothing you do at home fixes that.
Which of the four are fixed at your door
Charging port cleaning is doorstep work in Gurgaon and Delhi NCR. Where the charging board is a separate part, replacing it is a doorstep job too. A battery is replaced at your door unless the cell has bulged against the panel, and on most MacBooks the display assembly is swapped there as well.
The rest comes to the Sector 49 bench: a port soldered to the logic board, a bulged cell, a bonded display that has to cure flat after it is re-adhered, and liquid damage, where corrosion is cleaned off the board before it is powered. iFixpert runs the free 21-point diagnosis first and tells you which side yours falls on before any paid work starts.
