Two ways to get it fixed

Your table, or our bench

Most repairs happen at your address, in front of you. A few genuinely cannot, and pretending otherwise would mean doing them badly. This page is the routing rule — which jobs go where, who decides, and what happens when a repair changes midway.

What goes where

At your address

Doorstep, in front of you

  • Screen and display replacement on phones, tablets and most laptops
  • Battery replacement where the cell is not swollen against the panel
  • Charging port cleaning, reflow and replacement
  • Camera, speaker, microphone and button modules
  • Storage and RAM upgrades on machines that take them
  • Software, firmware and setup faults that need no disassembly

At Sector 49

Bench, with the right equipment

  • Board-level work needing a microscope and hot-air rework
  • Liquid damage, where the board is ultrasonically cleaned before testing
  • Back glass removal, which needs controlled-heat separation
  • Bonded displays that must be re-adhered and cured flat
  • Data recovery, where a second attempt can cost you the data
  • Any repair on an iMac or a sealed Bluetooth speaker enclosure

Two device families are bench-only whatever the fault: iMac and Bluetooth speaker. Both are sealed assemblies that have to be re-bonded after the repair, and neither can be cured flat on a dining table.

Who decides, and when

Four points where the route can change. You approve every one of them.

  1. 01 · At booking

The fault sets the starting point

You describe the device and the symptom when booking. That is enough to route most jobs correctly before anyone travels, and it is why the model number question is not a formality — a part that does not fit is a wasted visit for both sides.

  2. 02 · At your door

    Diagnosis confirms or corrects it

The engineer diagnoses at your address, free, before quoting. If the fault is what you described, the repair happens there. If diagnosis shows something else underneath — a corroded board behind a dead screen — you are told then, not after the device is open.

  3. 03 · If it changes

You approve the change, in writing

A job that turns out to need the bench is re-quoted before the device leaves your address, and the handover is documented in writing. Nothing goes to Sector 49 on a verbal agreement, and you can decline and have the device reassembled untouched.

  4. 04 · At handover

It comes back the way it left

Bench work is returned the way it came: delivered back to you, or collected from the lab, whichever you chose. The warranty is issued at handover on paper and by email, and is honoured at either place.

Common questions

Is my repair done at home or taken away?

Most repairs are completed at your address, in front of you. Board-level work, liquid damage, back-glass removal, bonded displays, data recovery, and any iMac or Bluetooth speaker job need the Sector 49 bench. The routing is confirmed at booking and again after free diagnosis.

What happens if the engineer finds a different fault?

You are told at your door, before the device is committed to a repair. If the new fault needs the bench, the job is re-quoted and the handover documented in writing before anything leaves your address. You can decline and have the device reassembled untouched.

Why can't every repair be done at my table?

Some repairs need equipment that cannot travel — a stereo microscope, a hot-air rework station, an ultrasonic cleaner, and a flat surface where adhesive can cure undisturbed. Doing that work on a dining table would not be a doorstep service, it would be a worse repair.

Do I pay more if the repair moves to the lab?

You pay for the repair that is actually performed, quoted in writing before it begins. Moving a job to the bench does not add a handling fee, and there is no diagnostic charge if you decide not to go ahead.

More on where a repair actually happens

Where a MacBook screen is replaced, home or bench

A MacBook screen is replaced at your address in most cases. Laptop display work is doorstep-capable, so the engineer brings the panel and the tools to your table and fits it in front of you. The exception is a display bonded into the lid. Re-adhesion and a flat cure need the iFixpert bench at Sector 49, where the panel can sit undisturbed while the adhesive sets.

Which of the two applies depends on your exact MacBook model. iFixpert checks the panel against that model number before confirming the visit, because parts for older machines are not always available. The free 21-point diagnosis then runs at your door, ahead of the written fixed price, and it is the point where the route is settled either way.

Can water damage be repaired at my home?

Water damage is lab work, not a doorstep job. A liquid-damaged board has to be cleaned and tested at the Sector 49 bench before anyone can say what actually failed, so iFixpert routes it there. The visit to your address still happens first. The 21-point diagnosis is free, the fixed price is written down, and the phone travels only after you accept it.

If the phone is water-resistant, opening it affects the factory seal. iFixpert replaces the gaskets and pressure-tests the device before handover, but the manufacturer's rating cannot be handed back, so treat the phone as no longer sealed to its original spec. Back up before the visit if the phone still turns on, because any storage or firmware work needs a backup already in place.

How long does a doorstep repair take at your address?

A doorstep repair runs start to finish inside the same visit, so what you set aside is the visit, not days without your phone. iFixpert works in a fixed order: the free 21-point diagnosis first, then a fixed price in writing, then the repair itself. You see the replacement part in its packaging before it goes in, and the part that came out is handed back unless you ask us to dispose of it.

How long that visit runs depends on the device and the job. A phone screen or battery module is not the same work as a charging port replacement, and a water-resistant device adds steps, since the gaskets are replaced and pressure-tested afterwards. iFixpert checks parts availability against your exact model before confirming the visit, because older and budget models are not always stocked. If diagnosis finds board-level or liquid damage, the repair finishes at the Sector 49 bench.

What happens if the engineer arrives with the wrong part?

You see the replacement part in its packaging before it goes into your phone, so a wrong part is caught before anything is fitted. The grade on your written quote — OEM, OLED or Compatible — is the grade that should be in the engineer's hand. If it is not, the engineer closes the device up, leaves it with you, and you pay nothing.

iFixpert checks parts availability against your exact model before confirming a visit, which is what keeps this rare. Parts for older and budget models are not always available, and when that is the case you are told before an engineer travels, not at your table. If the right part has to be brought on a second visit, the price stays the one already quoted to you in writing.
