What do I need to keep ready before the engineer comes for a doorstep repair?

The short answer

A cleared table with a plug point within reach, the device with its charger, and your exact model number. Back up first if the fault involves storage, firmware or software. Tell the engineer what the device has been through, including drops, liquid and any earlier repair, because that changes what gets packed for the visit. iFixpert engineers carry the tools and the part, so you buy nothing.

Set up a table, not a sofa

A dining table with a plug point within reach is the whole requirement. A bed or a sofa is the setup that causes trouble, because loose screws and small connectors disappear into fabric and are hard to find again. Clear the surface rather than making space at one end of it. Switch the overhead light on if the room is dim, and keep pets and small children out of the room while the device is open.

Back up before storage, firmware or software work

Most repairs never touch what is on the device, and a screen or a battery swap is one of them. Storage, firmware and software faults are the exception, and iFixpert tells you which of the two yours is at diagnosis, before you approve anything. A backup does not stop something going wrong on the device; it is what makes that risk survivable. Take one while the device still responds, and if it will not start at all, say so when you book.

Say what the device has been through

Drops, a spill you thought had dried out, a protector fitted over an existing crack, a repair done somewhere else — each of those changes what the engineer packs. A device opened before is the one most worth mentioning, because the screws, adhesive and seals may no longer be standard, and that changes how long it takes to open. Give the exact model number as well, from the back of the device or from Settings. iFixpert checks parts availability against that model before confirming the visit, and parts for older models are not always in stock.

Keep these ready

  • The device, its charger and its cable
  • The case and any screen protector taken off
  • The bill or the IMEI, if you still have them
  • The job sheet from any earlier repair, if another shop has been inside
  • Your screen lock, which you enter yourself if a test needs the device open
  • A spare handset, in case diagnosis sends the device to the bench

Do I have to stay at home for the whole repair, or can I step out?

You do not have to sit next to the engineer, but you should stay in the house. You are needed three times: at the diagnosis, at the written quote you approve before any work starts, and at handover, when the warranty is issued on paper and by email. Nobody else can approve the quote for you, so stay reachable on the number you booked with.
