Is my phone still waterproof after a screen replacement?

The short answer

Not at the factory rating. On a phone that was water-resistant to begin with, the display is bonded to the frame with an adhesive gasket, and that gasket is destroyed the moment the screen comes off. iFixpert fits a new gasket and pressure tests the phone before handover, which reduces the risk of water getting in without restoring the rating the phone was certified at.

Why the seal changes when the screen comes off

If your phone was sealed at the factory, the display sits on a ring of adhesive that runs around the frame. It is cut and lifted with the screen, and it cannot be reused. A new gasket goes in its place, doing the same job as a new seal rather than as the original one. The same holds for a sealed tablet or smartwatch.

The new gasket and the pressure test

iFixpert replaces the water-resistance gasket and pressure tests the phone after a screen replacement. A bonded display that has to be re-adhered and cured flat is done at the Sector 49 lab rather than at your door, because the cure needs the phone left flat and undisturbed. Which of the two applies to your phone is confirmed against your exact model before the visit is booked.

How to treat the phone afterwards

Keep the phone out of pools, showers and rain from then on. A splash or a wet hand is a different matter, and the new gasket is there for those. If it has already taken water once, say so at diagnosis, because corrosion under the frame changes what a new seal can hold back.

Will a repaired smartwatch remain waterproof?

Not at the rating printed on the box. A watch case is sealed with adhesive in the same way a phone display is, and that adhesive is cut when the case is opened. iFixpert fits fresh adhesive and checks the reseal, which reduces the risk without putting the certified rating back. Watch displays that have to be re-bonded and cured flat are done at the Sector 49 lab.

Will my smartwatch still be water-resistant after repair?

Only a repair that opens the case changes the seal. A strap, a charger fault or a software problem leaves it untouched. Once the case has been opened for a screen or a battery, treat the watch as splash-safe rather than swim-safe: sweat, chlorine and hot water work on new adhesive harder than plain water does. What the repair needs is confirmed against your exact model before the visit.
