Do I have to give the technician my phone passcode?
The short answer
No. You are not asked to hand the code over, and iFixpert does not unlock your device. Opening a phone, swapping a part and closing it all happen with the screen locked. The stage that can need the phone open is the test afterwards, and where that applies you type the code in yourself with the device in your hands. You can also refuse outright. Some faults then cannot be confirmed fixed from the lock screen, and that limit is stated at diagnosis rather than after the work.
When a repair needs the phone unlocked
The mechanical half of the job does not. Opening the device, swapping the part and closing it happen with the phone locked. Where a passcode is needed at all, it is needed afterwards, when the fitted part has to be tested.
Testing is where it comes up. Face ID and touch calibration after a display is fitted, network and SIM faults, restart and boot problems, and any software, firmware or setup work sit behind the lock screen. Ask at diagnosis whether yours is one of them. iFixpert runs the free 21-point diagnosis and quotes in writing before any work starts, so there is a point at which to ask.
You type it in, not the engineer
The engineer does not unlock your phone. Where a test needs it open, the device stays in your hands and you enter the code yourself, so it is not read out and not written on the job sheet. Change the passcode once the job is signed off.
If you would rather not unlock it at all
You can refuse, and the repair still goes ahead. What you give up is verification: some faults cannot be confirmed fixed from the lock screen, and a display or Face ID job is one of them. iFixpert states that limit at diagnosis, before you approve anything, rather than at handover. The warranty is issued at handover either way, on paper and by email.
Should I remove my passcode before the repair instead?
You can, it is your device, but it is not necessary and it leaves the phone open to anyone who picks it up before or after the visit. Keeping the lock on and entering the code yourself when a test calls for it gets you the same repair with the phone still protected. If you have already removed it, set it again at handover.
Do I have to give the engineer my phone passcode during a home repair?
No, and at your door there is less reason to than anywhere else. The work happens on your table in front of you, so the phone never leaves the room, and for any test that needs it open you hold it and type the code in yourself. If the fault turns out to be lab-only work that has to go to the Sector 49 bench, the phone travels locked, and iFixpert tells you before it leaves what the testing afterwards will need.
